Read: “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour?” (Mark 14:37).

Examine: One day before the cross, Jesus said to Peter that he will deny Jesus for which, Peter answered even more strongly, “I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!” And all the other disciples said the same thing.

Just after this event they came to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James, and John with him. Distress and anguish came over him, and he said to them, “The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here and keep watch.”

He went a little farther on, threw himself on the ground, and prayed that, if possible, he might not have to go through that time of suffering. “Father,” he prayed, “my Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet not what I want, but what you want.”

Then he returned and found the three disciples asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Weren’t you able to stay awake for even one hour?” And he said to them, “Keep watch, and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” He went away once more and prayed, saying the same words.

Then he came back to the disciples and found them asleep; they could not keep their eyes open. And they did not know what to say to him. When he came back the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come! Look, the Son of Man is now being handed over to the power of sinners.

Application: The day Jesus warned Peter about the denial, that was the day Peter was supposed to be on guard, and Jesus asked them to stay on guard. Peter was tired, he slept of, other 3 disciples also slept, but Jesus asked to Peter alone, could you now watch one hour.

Then Jesus goes on saying keeping watch and praying will keep us from not falling into temptation, even then when Jesus came back, they were sleeping, Jesus still asking are you still sleeping, there was serious expectation for them to pray.

Decision: Do we really spent time even when we do not feel like, Oh Lord, I am so sorry I have taken prayer so lightly. Lord Jesus, help me to understand that there is a time to pray. Give me wisdom and strength to pray during that time.

Read: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46)

Examine: At one time Jesus went up a hill to pray and spent the whole night there praying to God. When Jesus came down from the hill with the apostles, he stood on a level place with a large number of his disciples. A large crowd of people was there

Jesus looked at his disciples and said many things, towards the end of the teaching Jesus spoke of a parable of two types of builders. Jesus started the section this way.

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and yet don’t do what I tell you? Anyone who comes to me and listens to my words and obeys them—I will show you what he is like.  He is like a man who, in building his house, dug deep and laid the foundation on rock. The river flooded over and hit that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But anyone who hears my words and does not obey them is like a man who built his house without laying a foundation; when the flood hit that house it fell at once—and what a terrible crash that was!”

Application: What we value most will be shown in our lives. We are an open book. It is impossible to say “Lord, Lord” and truly mean it without following through. Jesus spent whole night in prayer, prayer will become the most important thing in our life when we truly love the Lord.

Jesus asking the question why do you call me, Lord, Lord; teaches us very clearly that there is always a danger that we might be deceived, that we end up doing lip service and at heart there is no commitment and obedience. When Jesus was comparing obedience to a man digging deep and laying the foundation on rock. Reminds us spiritual life is like building the house, digging deep on the word of God and fervent in prayers. To base and model our life on Jesus the rock and our foundation. Jesus spoke of floods, in this world there is pain, trouble an tough times.

Decision: Father Lord help me and teach me to pray. Lord, please lead me in path of righteousness. I do not want to do just lip service but truly want to be faithful bond servant of the Almighty.

I surrender and make careful commitment to read, study, obey the word of God, earnestly pray, diligently serve, live, trusting, depending on the grace and mercies of the Lord, totally leaning on to the Holy Spirit and unconditional love of the Father Lord.

Read: “Do you want to be healed?” (John 5:6).

Examine: During the ministry of Jesus once, Jesus went to Jerusalem for a religious festival. Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool with five porches; in Hebrew it is called Bethzatha. A large crowd of sick people were lying on the porches—the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed. A man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. Jesus saw him lying there, and he knew that the man had been sick for such a long time; so he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

 The sick man answered, “Sir, I don’t have anyone here to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; while I am trying to get in, somebody else gets there first.” Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”  Immediately the man got well; he picked up his mat and started walking.

Application: An invalid of thirty-eight years lay beside the pool of Bethesda, waiting for the healing waters to be stirred up so he could jump in and be healed. To that date, he was unable to make his way into the pool when the water moved. Jesus chose to engage with that man on a Sabbath day. He approached him and asked, “Do you want to be healed?” The man explained his situation that he is not able to make it to the pool as no one was there to help, he did not understand Jesus meant do you want Jesus to heal you. He did not understand that Jesus is powerful to heal.

This healing brought the Pharisees’ ire and they questioned the man, who later saw Jesus again and Jesus addressed his spiritual state (John 5:14). Jesus then rebuked the Pharisees when He (1) called God His Father and (2) proclaimed God’s continued work.

Decision: Lord Jesus heal me; this is my prayer; I need spiritual and physical healing. In front of the compassionate question from the Lord of the universe “Do you want to be healed?”, I want to cry out with loud voice and say, heal me Lord, have mercy on me. The condition has been going on for a while, you alone are the true healer.  Walk with me Lord in this journey and have the peace that passes all understanding.

Read: He [Jesus] *said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?’ Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. Matthew 8:26

Examine:  Jesus during his ministry he came to Capernaum, he went to the territory of Gadara by sea. Jesus got into a boat, and his disciples went with him. Suddenly a fierce storm hit the lake, and the boat was in danger of sinking. But Jesus was asleep. The disciples went to him and woke him up. “Save us, Lord!” they said. “We are about to die!”

“Why are you so frightened?” Jesus answered. “What little faith you have!” Then he got up and ordered the winds and the waves to stop, and there was a great calm.

Everyone was amazed. “What kind of man is this?” they said. “Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Application: There was Jesus in the boat but still faced a fierce storm. More than everything it is not about the storm but it is if Jesus is there in the boat. We should reach out to Jesus for every situation, Jesus is powerful to calm the storm.

Jesus asked why they were afraid, So Jesus was expecting the disciples to be calm and confidence in the midst of the storm. How is that possible, if they knew who was in the boat. To trust in Jesus when we do not know what is going on.

Jesus asking what little faith they had, so truly the measure and expectation from our savior who is with us in the storm was not met by them. Once Jesus calmed the storm disciples responded, what kind of man is this, even winds and waves obey, him, they would have never understood this unless they faced the storm

Decision: Jesus is more than sufficient than the storm. Storm should not scare us. Oh Lord, help me to understand the depth of knowing. Lord, please anoint me and give me wisdom to see the way of the Lord in the midst of the storm.

Jesus is all what I need and Jesus is all what want in any situations.

Read:  So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” John 21 :15

Examine: In John 21, we see Jesus after the resurrection and meeting His disciples at the sea of Galilee, it was the third time Jesus met His disciples after the resurrection. The disciples had gone fishing and did not catch anything, Jesus guided them and they got a large catch of fish, when they came to the shore Jesus prepared breakfast for them. After the meal, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?”

“Yes, Lord,” he answered, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said to him, “Take care of my lambs.” A second time Jesus said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

“Yes, Lord,” he answered, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said to him, “Take care of my sheep.” A third time Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter became sad because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” and so he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you!”

Jesus said to him, “Take care of my sheep. I am telling you the truth: when you were young, you used to get ready and go anywhere you wanted to; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will tie you up and take you where you don’t want to go.”  (In saying this, Jesus was indicating the way in which Peter would die and bring glory to God.) Then Jesus said to him, “Follow me!”

Application: Jesus meeting the needs of the disciples, asking them to cast net at the place where there will be a great catch. If the disciples did not get a catch that day, it would have been just a tough day in life of a fisherman. The mere thought Jesus cares even for the little things, again we see Jesus preparing breakfast for His disciples, Lord of the universe really cares for 1 meal of His disciples.

Jesus asks do you love me, for the Lord most important thing is we loving Him will all our heart, even going on to ask, do you love me more than these, things of the world, what we have, do we really love Jesus more than everything.

Decision: Lord help me to tell like Peter, Jesus you know that I love you. Confidence that the Lord of universe knows that we love Him. Lord heal our family.
